The start date and regulations of the 31st Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL) have been determined
The 2025/26 season of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL) will tip off on September 28. According to the regulations, the championship will be held in a four-round, 20-game format. The regular season games will be played in two groups, “A” and “B.” Based on the final standings of the previous season, the groups are as follows:
Group A: "Sabah" BK, "Neftchi" İK, "Sheki" BK, "Absheron Lions" BK, NTD BC, "Ganja" BK
Group B: "Nakhchivan" BK, "Ordu" İK, "Sarhadchi" PİK, "Sumgait" BK, "Quba" BK, "Lankaran" BK
For group A matches, teams must field 4 foreign players and at least 1 local player on the court at all times. In group B, until Round 15, teams must play with 3 foreign players and 2 local players. Starting from round 16, the requirement changes to 4 foreign players and 1 local player. At the end of the regular season, the top 3 teams from group A and the winner of group B will directly qualify for the quarterfinals of the playoffs. The remaining teams from both groups will face each other in the round of 16. Clubs that win two games first in the round of 16 will advance to the quarterfinals. Both the quarterfinal and semifinal series will be played in a best-of-three format. The final series will follow a best-of-five format, with the first team to win three games crowned champion of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL).
It should be noted that based on the final standings of the season, the top 8 teams will remain in the 1st league (ABL) for the following year, while the clubs finishing in 9th–12th place will compete in the newly established 2nd league (ABL 2) for the first time in the history of Azerbaijani basketball.

On March 2, our men's national team hosted the North Macedonia team in the group game of the preliminary qualifying round of the 2029 European Basketball Championship (EuroBasket 2029) at the Baku Sports Palace. Although our national team won the first half of the game with a score of 44:37, they lost to their opponent in the end with a score of 70:78.
It should be noted that our national team will play its last games in the group on July 2 away against Luxembourg and on July 5 in Baku against Ireland.

Important victory for our national team in the trip to Ireland !
On February 27, our men's national team won a 76:75 away victory over the Irish team in the group match of the preliminary round of the 2029 European Basketball Championship (EuroBasket 2029). This victory was our team's first victory in the group.
It should be noted that our team's next match will be on March 2 at 20:00 Baku time at the Baku Sports Palace against the group's joint leader, North Macedonia.

Ganja basketball club won the Azerbaijan Cup for the second time in its history (2026)
On February 22, the final match of the Azerbaijan Cup (2026) in basketball between "Ganja" and "Sabah" took place at the Baku Sports Palace. The "Sabah" club, which started the final match with a lead, lost this advantage towards the end of the game and "Ganja" won over its opponent with a score of 89:82, becoming the owner of the cup for the second time in the club's history. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Azerbaijan Cup (2026) was named Jervis Garrett from the "Ganja" club. The American basketball player finished the game with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
