 In the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games, the first opponent of our national team in group "C" was the host team of Turkey. The intense match ended with a 14-12 victory of our national team. Our second opponent in the group was Kyrgyzstan. Our women's 3x3 basketball team, which made a very fast start to the match against its opponent, won a comfortable 21-4 victory in the end. Our women's team finished the group as the leader and qualified for the 1/4 final stage. 

 It should be noted that our team's opponent in the 1/4 final stage will be the Qatari team.

Our 3x3 basketball team, consisting of Amil Hamzayev, Zaur Pashayev, Orkhan Aydın and Endar Poladkhanli, left the tense game with an 18-15 victory. In the second match, the opponent was the home team of Turkey, which is considered the main favorite of the tournament. Our team started the game quickly and won a 21-12 victory over the opponent.

It should be noted that our team will play its last game in the group on August 15 at 18:45 against the Moroccan team.

 On September 9-11, our national team will compete in group "D" at the European 3x3 basketball championship, which will be held in Graz, Austria. The opponents of our team in the group will be Belgian and Dutch teams. Our national team will hold both matches in the group on September 9. The first match of our team will be against the Belgian team at 18:45 Baku time, and the second match will be against the Dutch team at 21:30. It should be noted that the teams that occupy the first two places in the group will advance to the 1/4 final stage.

History of the Federation
After Azerbaijan gained independence, the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation (ABF) was established in 1992.
In 1994, the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation (ABF) became a full member of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), which gave our teams the right to participate in international competitions under the flag of our independent state.
In 1997-2000, ABF was expelled from the European Basketball Federation for not participating in any FIBA ​​meetings and events.
In 2000, a new leadership of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation was elected.
Thanks to raising international relations to a new level, ABF's membership in this international organization was restored at the FIBA ​​Congress held in Turkey in 2000.
In August 2002, the President of the National Olympic Committee, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, received the famous basketball player, Olympic, World and European basketball champion Rimas Kurtinaytisi, and in September of that year, Kurtinaytisi was appointed head coach of the national team. team. The arrival of the famous Lithuanian in Azerbaijan gave a strong impetus to the development of basketball in our country. [1]
Achievements
Azerbaijan Basketball Federation (ABF) was registered on March 12, 1993. He has been a member of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) since 1994.
The main goal of the ABF is to develop the sport of basketball in Azerbaijan and to enhance the sports honor of our country. ABF carries out its activities in cooperation with the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and FIBA. The main activities of ABF are:
Wide promotion and popularization of basketball in Azerbaijan;
Development and implementation of promising programs for the development of basketball in Azerbaijan;
organization and holding of domestic competitions for different age groups;
ensuring the participation of national teams in international competitions;
Increasing the prestige of Azerbaijani basketball in international sports organizations;
study of international experience in the development of basketball and its application in the country;
organization of scientific research and methodical work in the field of basketball;
Improving the training system of highly qualified basketball players and specialists.
ABF regularly holds national championships and competitions of the Children and Youth Basketball League. In addition, ABF provides regular 3x3 basketball competitions in the country, which has recently been given great importance by FIBA. ABF pays special attention to the preparation of the Azerbaijani men's and women's 3x3 basketball teams for the IV Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in Baku in 2017, and our teams will participate in the qualifying competitions for the 3x3 European Championship in July this year.
ABF pays special attention to the training and development of young basketball players in our country and for this purpose provides continuous selection work by coaches. It should be noted that in July this year, the Azerbaijani U16 and U18 national teams will participate in the European Championship (Division C).

National basketball championship among students

On May 11, 2022, the opening ceremony of the national basketball championship among students of higher education institutions was organized by the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.


Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Firudin Gurbanov, Rector of the Baku Higher Oil School Elmar Gasimov and Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation Farrukh Mahmudov wished student basketball players success in the competition.
