The Azerbaijan Basketball Federation (ABF) held an event to report on the last season and open the new season
On September 25, the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation (ABF) held an event at the Four Seasons Hotel dedicated to the launch of the 2025/26 season and a review of the previous season. The event was attended by Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Chingiz Huseynzade, Secretary General of the NOC Azer Aliyev, Head of the Sports Department at the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Firudin Gurbanov, President of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation Emin Amrullayev, members of the federation’s board, staff, club officials, coaches, players, and media representatives.
In his opening remarks, NOC Vice-President Chingiz Huseynzade spoke about the development of basketball in Azerbaijan and the steps taken in this direction. He also highlighted the growing international success of Azerbaijani basketball, both at the national team and club levels. Following this, the federation’s marketing manager, Famil Majidov, presented the season review, providing detailed information about the projects implemented during the past season, achievements in international tournaments, and upcoming innovations planned for the near future. In his address, ABF President Emin Amrullayev emphasized the federation’s guiding principles, noting that the main goal is to further professionalize both the national teams and the domestic league: “Our priority is to popularize basketball in the country, nurture young athletes to compete internationally, and ensure the sustainable development of our clubs. In the upcoming season, we will implement larger-scale events, competitions, and partnerships.”
At the end of the event, ABF President Emin Amrullayev presented special gifts to the federation’s official partners. This was followed by a media briefing, during which he answered journalists’ questions and expressed confidence that the new season would be more productive and exciting for the basketball community.
It should be noted that the new basketball season in Azerbaijan will officially tip off on September 26.

The 13th round of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL) has concluded
Matches of the 13th round of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL) were played on January 16–18. The following results were recorded in the games held in Groups “A” and “B”.
Group A

The Round of 16 matches of the Azerbaijan Cup (2026) have concluded
The Round of 16 stage of the Azerbaijan Basketball Cup (2026) took place on January 13–14. On the first matchday, Neftchi defeated Lankaran 86–54, while Guba secured a 105–98 away victory over Nakhchivan. On the second matchday, Sheki, playing in front of their home fans, beat Serhedchi 92–75. Meanwhile, Sumgait claimed a sensational away win, defeating NTD 116–94.
It should be noted that the quarterfinal matches — Sabah vs Guba, Absheron Lions vs Sheki, Ganja vs Neftchi and Ordu vs Sumgait — will be held at the Baku Sports Palace from February 18 to 22.
