"Sabah" is the winter champion of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL) for the 3rd time in a row
On December 25, the next two games of the 9th round of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL) took place. In the first game of the day, which was held at the "Sarhadchi" Sports Center, "Ordu", one of the strongest clubs of "B" group, won against "Lankaran" with a score of 99-51. The second game of the day was held in "A" group between "Neftchi" and "Sarhadchi" clubs. "Neftchi" beat its opponent with a score of 77-65 and achieved its 3rd consecutive victory in the regular season. In the opening game of the 9th round, "Sabah" won against NTD with a score of 94-68 and managed to become the winter champion of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL) for the 3rd consecutive season.

On December 25, due to a tragic plane crash involving an AZAL passenger aircraft near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, which resulted in significant loss of life, a day of mourning has been declared across the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 26. In connection with this tragedy, the matches of the 9th round of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL) — "Shaki" vs. "Ganja," "Sumgayit" vs. "Quba," and "Nakhchivan" vs. "Absheron" — have been postponed to a later date.

The Azerbaijan national team has kicked off its EuroBasket 2029 pre-qualifying campaign
Our men’s national basketball team has played two games in the pre-qualifying stage of the EuroBasket 2029, which will be held in 2029. Our first match in Group A took place away against North Macedonia — considered the strongest team in the group. The home side won the game with a score of 87–49. Our second group match was against Luxembourg. Although our team came close to a comeback in the final period, the game ended 95–90 in favor of the opponent.
It should be noted that the next group matches for the Azerbaijan national team will take place on February 27, 2026, away against Ireland, and on March 2, at home, against North Macedonia.
