The tournament aimed at preparing for the Azerbaijan basketball championship has ended

  On October 10, an event was held at the "Four Seasons" hotel regarding the start of the 2024-2025 season of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation (ABF) and the report of the last basketball season. Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Deputy Minister Mariana Vasileva, President of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation (ABF) Emin Amrullayev, members of the board, employees of the federation, club leaders, representatives, coaches, basketball players and media representatives took part in the event. FIBA referee Urfan Bayramli opened the event with his introductory speech. He talked about the work done by the federation in the last season, the successes achieved in the international arena and the innovations that will take place in the new season. Speaking at the event, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov specially noted the development dynamics of basketball in Azerbaijan in recent years. President of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation Emin Amrullayev also spoke about the principles and goals of successful activities. At the end, a briefing was organized for journalists.   On September 21-22, the next seminar for our local referees was held at the Zugulba educational sports base under the organization of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation (ABF). The opening of the seminar led by the chairman of the judges' committee Alakbar Hasanov started after the instructions given by the sports director of ABF Turgay Zeytingöz regarding the new season. In the seminar attended by 18 local referees, the new pre-season preparations of our referees were tested with both theoretical and practical tests. In addition, in this FIBA-approved seminar, experts from the international basketball organization explained to local referees the application of the new rules in games with a video image. The main goal of the seminar is to explain theoretically and practically the new rules applied before the new season to referees and increase their knowledge and skills to referee in the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL) and other local competitions

  The 2024/25 season in the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL) will begin on October 18. Unlike last year, 12 teams will compete for the championship in the 30th Azerbaijan basketball championship. From this season, "Jalilabad" club will be replaced by "Guba" club, "Khazri" club will be called "Nakhchivan" BK, and "Khirdalan" club will operate under the name "Absheron" BK. At the same time, the newly created clubs "Ordu" and "Lankaran" will join the competition in the championship from the new season. According to the new regulations, the games of the championship will be held according to the system consisting of 20 rounds of four rounds. During the game, the main condition will be the participation of 4 foreigners and definitely 1 local basketball player on the court.The games of the regular season will take place over "A" and "B" groups. Based on the results of the last championship, the clubs that finished the regular season in the top six, that is, qualified for the playoffs, will compete in group "A", four clubs that did not qualify for the playoffs and two newly formed clubs will compete in group "B". Group A: "Sabah" BK, "Nakhchivan" BK, NTD Baku, "Absheron" BK, "Neftchi" İK, "Sarhadchi" BK. Group B: "Sumgait" BK, "Ganja" BK, "Guba" BK, "Sheki" BK, "Ordu" İK, "Lankaran" BK. In the regular season, along with the top 3 teams in group "A", the team that finished first in group "B" will qualify for the 1/4 final stage of the playoffs. The other teams in groups "A" and "B" will face each other in the 1/8 final stage of the playoffs. The clubs with the fastest two wins in the 1/8 finals will qualify for the 1/4 finals. Both quarter-final and semi-final series will continue until 2 wins. In the final series, the club with the fastest 4 wins will be the champion of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL). It should be noted that based on the successful or unsuccessful results of the clubs in the playoff stage, it will be determined which clubs will participate in the "A" group and which clubs will participate in the "B" group from the next season
